Spiritual Metamorphoses Art
|
|
All my work is about people and their collective experiences in this world [or just before and after]. It is about their tests, successes, failures, and what is learned, if anything. It’s about their pain and pleasure, their moments of insanity, or what passes for normalcy. It’s about the metaphysical – spiritual principles which run through our lives just like the blood in our physical bodies. My work has alternately been described as “inspired and surreal”, and “dark and disturbing”. I don’t see my work as dark. I see my work as having the qualities of a chronicle by a plain-spoken witness to a series of events, who enjoys careful delineation in describing their experiences, from which they do not turn away, regardless of the circumstances. It is open-eyed observation. I believe that those things which touch us most deeply are those with which we are most closely related. [And] when I see how people react to my work, and to what pieces in particular, I recognize how closely related they all feel to the subjects of my work, sometimes whether they want to or not. Artists are the creators of the mythos of society, put into perspective for their particular society’s time frame. It is their job to see what is not seen by those in the midst of the great conflagration which is the distracting, day-to-day experience of living, for many. Artists are interpreters of something which while within them, exists and survives without them. All art exists as life exists, and is as necessary an element of life as eating, sexual intercourse, and language. Whenever any of the necessary elements of life are suppressed for too long a time, individual development is stunted and the society decays. But, of course, life and art are both adamant regarding expression, they can not be suppressed for long before erupting in one form or another. My work can be, is for me, the brightness of the Sun, and the darkness that may follow, as a result of not being prepared to endure the unexpected illumination of who we really are. © All work represented are the intellectual property of the Artist, Nazarius.
