“Illusions and the Dance” – a 9" x 12" ink and watercolor.

Every culture dances. Every culture will dress and prepare for their many occasions. However, there are moments during every occasion when those preparations fall short of safeguarding one from unexpected anomalies…such as something we might classify as an ‘illusion’ or a ‘hallucination’; another word used to describe something someone experiences, but which others do not have access to as easily, if at all. And so that word is used to further delineate the boundaries between the ‘real world’ and that which they have not experienced, and therefore do not understand. When some people hit the dance floor, they are capable of disappearing into a world the music opens up for them; a world into which not all have access. To what extent this is a good, normal thing, or an otherworldly event, is a matter of individual experience, as it is with all mind-altering experiences. What alters your mental perception?
